Learn about OMC

Community involvement

At Olmsted Medical Center, our team believes in giving back to the communities in which we live and work. A past recipient of the Rochester Chamber of Commerce’s “Rochester Business Gives Award,” OMC annually contributes several million dollars to the communities it serves (see our Annual Report for more information).

Surveys show that many OMC employees contribute to their communities by serving on boards, volunteering their time for civic organizations, and being involved in community events.

Each year, our leadership team attends civic events to volunteer and share ideas. As part of our Corporate Care program, members of our staff conduct free health screenings and offer flu shots at local businesses. We also provide vaccinations that are used by city and county agencies.

Our highly skilled dieticians and diabetes educators provide community education, focused on diet, weight control, the value of physical activity, and diabetes management.

For more than 25 years, our employees have organized an annual Stride for Fitness, a public run and walk promoting physical fitness.

Education of health professionals

Each year, health professionals count on Olmsted Medical Center for education. This includes registered-nurse and licensed-practical-nurse students who receive instruction on our hospital’s medical-surgical and obstetric wards.

Our team also provides training for the area’s social work and pharmacy students. A variety of other students receive education and training here, including dietitians, nurse practitioners, medical students, physician assistants, and physical therapists. Our High School Student Shadow program welcomes local high school students who follow and observe selected health professionals during their daily work.

For more information about how our team enriches the community, please see our 2007 Annual Report.
